4 Vital Tips to Help Groom Your Pet Dog Adequately

The Ruff Life • January 21, 2022

To be a responsible dog owner, grooming is one of the most important things you need to master with your furry friend. Sure, you care a lot about your hygiene, but you must do the same with your dog. This way, not only can they look their best, but they can also feel healthy.

So, are you ready to learn how you can adequately groom your dog? Here are a few basic things you need to learn:

1. Clean Their Ears

Dog owners sometimes have difficulties when it comes to cleaning the ears of their pets. The thing is that sometimes, the ear wax can get so hard, it turns into a block. Thus, you need to learn how to clean it out. The first thing you need to do is to locate the opening of the ear canal. If you can’t find it, then consult a professional. Once you’ve found it, you can start clearing the ear wax by using a cotton swab.

Besides cleaning the ear wax, you should also clean the outer part of the ears. To do so, you can again use a soft cotton swab. If you find it hard to do it, you can use a gentle cleanser. If you want, you can also use natural products such as aloe Vera.

2. Trim Their Nails

Dog nails are extremely sharp, which is why you need to trim them regularly. In fact, you need to cut them every four weeks. As for the way you should cut their nails, you should cut them in a straight line to avoid injuring them.

3. Trim Their Fur

The fur of your dog needs to be groomed too. This way, they will be protected from insects and other organisms which could harm their skin.

When it comes to fur trimming, you should first check the dog’s coat. If you notice it’s too long, then you should trim it. The only thing you should take care of is that you don’t trim too close to the skin, or you can hurt them.

4. Bathe Them

As dogs often play outside, they can get dirty. In addition, they can have fleas and ticks. As such, you need to bathe your dog regularly. The easiest way to do so is to use a mild dog shampoo such as the Pet Head Puppy Bling Suds.

Once you’ve bathed your dog, you should remove the water from the dog’s fur. To do so, you can use a dry towel. The best approach is to dry them off in the opposite direction of the hair, if possible.

Conclusion

At the end of the day, your dog is an extension of your family. As a result, you are responsible for taking care of them, including them in grooming. However, if you feel unsure about how to groom your dog or simply do not have the time for it, consult a professional! They will ensure that your dog receives the best grooming care possible to help them look and feel good. Of course, you should also learn these skills yourself so that you can take care of your dog should you be unable to visit the professional.
